A few weekends ago, we went to visit and spend a night at the lovely Radisson Blu Le Vendome Hotel in Sea Point. Now, I don’t know about you, but we absolutely love a mini-getaway that focuses on these three things – location, comfort and food. The Radisson Blu Hotel in Sea Point is very much on board with all three, and then some. From the moment we arrived, to the moment we said our goodbyes, we were comfortable, happy and well looked after. Everything we needed was easily available and things we didn’t think we needed were provided. No stone was left unturned and it just made our stay that much more relaxing, that much more luxurious and that much more, MORE.
The Radisson Blue Le Vendome Hotel really does have everything you need for a great getaway. Location wise, you couldn’t ask for better. The hotel is situated just off the popular promenade in the heart of Sea Point and is a stone’s throw away from the V & A Waterfront, the CBD and all of Cape Town’s beautiful beaches. We kicked off our visit with a tour of the hotel, but not before being offered a glass of wine and a snack from the all day “refreshment station” to take along with us – how cool is that… glass of wine in one hand, camera in the other and off we went. We were met with friendly, smiling faces at every turn and felt incredibly welcome. The hotel has recently completed phase 1 of 3 of their revamp project and this included the refurbishment of the restaurants, bar and pool areas. Phase 2 will include the addition of a spa and a gym and phase 3 will revitalize the rooms.
The table of happiness… wine and cheese on offer – all day, everyday!
Comfort wise, we stayed in a Business Class Suite and our room had it all – lots of space, huge bed, bathroom with bath and shower facilities, dressing table, DSTV, free Wireless internet, fluffy bathrobes and slippers, Nespresso® coffee machine, mini-bar and balcony.
Our room was really fantastic, I loved that there was enough space for us to laze around and enjoy our own bit of downtime without feeling cramped – rugby for the lop and reading/photo editing for me. Which we both paired with wine and sweets – if that doesn’t scream holiday mode, then I don’t know what does. I also really loved that although our room was big, it was also super cozy and warm and we would have been more than happy to stay in our room for our entire stay as opposed to it being just place to rest our heads for the night.
Food wise, the hotel offers 3 eateries – #add Restaurant and Pool (a chilled all day dining and outdoor setting serving casual breakfast and lunch dishes), Cpoint. Bar and Lounge (a stylish lounge area serving cocktails and bar snacks), and La Mer Restaurant and Grill (an elegant fine dining dinner restaurant). The same style is carried through to each of these areas and it’s all about modern comfort. Neutral colours with pops of peaceful colours give off an elegant and calm feeling. Fresh flowers, couches and open spaces pull you in and make you stay a while.
For dinner, the Hotel had arranged a romantic dinner for 2 at La Mer Restaurant. The food and wine were amazing and each plate of food that came to our table was beautifully plated. We were presented with bread and a trio of pestos and a little Salmon taster as we were seated – really lovely touch. For starters were ordered the Carpaccio of Ostrich which was tasty but teeny-tiny and the Grilled Halloumi Salad which was more about the halloumi and less about the salad and I loved it… it came with a caramlised baby apple which tied the dish together perfectly. For mains we ordered the Grilled Beef Fillet which came with fondant potato, butternut squash, oxtail ravioli and wild mushrooms and the Loin of Karoo Lamb with sweet potato and vegetables – both meats were cooked to perfection and the sauce that came with the beef was to die for. For dessert we ordered the Baked chocolate and pistachio cigar and the Chocolate Indulge – which we decided to take up to our room and enjoy in bed. Let me tell you, that chocolate indulge was everything – it was rich and gooey and was topped with a pineapple salsa – so good!
Tulips, grey walls, comfy couches and a wall to wall wine rack… my kind of dining room.
On Sunday morning we headed straight to #add Restaurant and Pool to tuck into the breakfast buffet. We had a solid night’s sleep and a huge appetite and we were ready to spend a decent amount of time drinking coffee and juice and helping ourselves to the insane selection of food. There was everything from fruit, yoghurts, cereals and pastries to a full hot fry-up, waffles and freshly ordered eggs.
We had the perfect mini-getaway. A hop, skip and a jump away from home, delicious food, friendly service and a good nights rest – amazing!
