There’s something very special about watching people who love what they do, do what they love. We popped into Chefs in Gardens to try their new dinner service a few weeks ago and apart from their very obvious passion for great food, we loved being front row to all of the action.
Chefs opened a few months ago but has only just launched their dinner service. The concept is simple, yet brilliant, and we think that they are going to do very well. Every day, Chefs prepares a menu that has 3 meal options to choose from. A meat/fish dish, a vegetarian dish and a lighter dish. All you have to do is arrive, pick your meal and drink, add a dessert (you’ll want to do this), pay and grab a seat. That’s about as much effort as you’re going to need. Once seated, the team takes over and you get to relax, catch up with friends and watch the kitchen come to life. It honestly feels like you’re sitting in a good friend’s house while they cook up a storm in the kitchen.
While I think Chefs is aimed at the busy Capetonian, we couldn’t have felt more unrushed if we tried. We loved that the option to dine and dash was there, but we also appreciated that we could linger, have another drink, order dessert and have a fuller experience.
Our menu for the night included a chicken, a fish and a vegetarian dish. We opted for the chicken and the vegetarian and let me just start by saying wow! Each meal is served on a tray with separate little sections to hold all the accompanying sauces, salads, relishes and veggies. A lot of thought has gone into creating a practical and seamless process for all involved – from the kitchen to the table and we loved this unique spin on dining out.
The food is really good, like really, really good! The freshest, most uncomplicated and full of flavour food we have tasted in a long time. Every single thing on our tray highlighted the flavours and textures of the entire meal. In fact, most of Chefs creations are done in the wood fire oven which adds that much more depth and flavour to the food.
